One of the key elements to break the cycle of poverty is to help residents find a way out of their current situation.
The residents need resources to help them find the path to change their current situation. We also have large base of new immigrants. There are a lot of skilled immigrants that cannot find jobs in their field before going through process of acquiring Canadian Certification. Both groups need help to navigate through processes. In addition to adults, students need mentors to help them be inspired staying in school and complete their education goals.
As a new immigrant, who has persevered in getting a University degree I have insight into what needs to be done. As a volunteer, I am very conscious that this is a multi-year process and it will take about a decade to see benefits of such endeavors.
The work we put in now will meet and produce a better future for Hamilton.
